As Turkey’s attacks continue against Ain Issa, Future Syria Party (FSP) chair Ibrahim al-Qaftan attended a vigil, organised by the FSP Manbij (Minbiç) Youth Council, to comment on the latest situation.
Condemning Turkey’s assaults, Qaftan said, “All parties in Syria, especially the Damascus government, should begin a dialogue regarding Turkey’s assaults. Attacks by the Turkish state and its mercenaries need to be stopped. Otherwise they will aim to occupy much more Syrian land. Everyone in the region should struggle against the colonialist Turkish mindset”.
Noting that international forces in Syria were chasing their own interests, Qaftan said, “The United States, Russia, the Turkish state — they are all here for their own interests. As the Future Syria Party, we say that Syria should democratise lest Syria fall apart under these conditions”.
Attacks on North East Syria
Turkey has threatened North East Syria since the Autonomous Administration was constituted. After taking over Ras-al Ayn (Serekaniye) in 2019 and Afrin (Efrin) in 2018, Turkey launched assaults against Ain Issa (Eyn İsa) on 18 December when Turkish-backed armed groups attacked the village of Mişêrifê in northeastern Syria. According to local information, the violent clashes that started then are still ongoing.
Toxar village in Manbij, Tell Tamer, and Zirgan are among the places that have so far been subjected to attacks. The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have stated several times that they would resist attacks by using legitimate defensive tactics.
