The Kurdistan Worker’s Party’s (PKK’s) Executive Committee member Duran Kalkan was interviewed in a special programme broadcast on Medya Haber TV. Kalkan expressed his views about the political and military struggle in Syria and Rojava and the position of the Kurds in the region.
Regarding the situation in Syria, Kalkan said: “They don’t want a democratic solution in Syria”. In a wider context, he stated: “We are against the genocidal attack. This is certainly such an attack. Behind it is the Justice and Development Party’s (AKP’s) ruling”. Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, he observed, “was clearly saying that”.
He expressed the view that “they use two sticks to threaten us: one is Turkey and the other is the Damascus administration”. Regarding the Kurdish National Council meetings, Kalkan said: “They want to take back the gains made by the PKK. They want to take back control from the PKK. They tried this with a method that would destroy Kurdish freedom”.
