Ecevit Piroğlu, under threat of extradition from Serbia to Turkey where he faces persecution, remains on a hunger strike for the 126th day. His health is deteriorating, and he is currently hospitalised. In a message, Piroğlu stated that he does not want any medical intervention and is determined to continue his protest until his demands are met. He continues to demand release and freedom of movement.
Meanwhile, various groups advocating for Piroğlu’s release staged protests in front of the Serbian Embassys in six European cities, Berlin, London, Den Haag, Paris, Dusseldorf and Stuttgart.
Members of the Voice of Prisoners Platform (TSP), claimed that ‘dirty negotiations’ were taking place between the governments of Ankara and Belgrade and urged for Piroğlu’s immediate release due to his severe health issues, with grave risk of fatal organ failure.
Ecevit Piroğlu was arrested in 2021 following Turkey’s extradition request. Despite repeated rulings against his forced return by the Belgrade Court of Appeal., he was rearrested in January. Piroğlu is currently held at the Padinska Skela extradition centre.
