🔸 Dialogue Days‘, a string of global events, aiming to spark discussion on Abdullah Öcalan’s theories and ideals, challenge his isolation and advocate for his freedom continued with notable events in Sweden, Italy and Germany. The events, running throughout the week, connect civil society, social movements and academics worldwide.
🔸 Mukaddes Kubilay, a former Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) mayor and one of the first Kurdish women to achieve such positions in Turkey, has been released from Ankara’s Sincan Women’s Closed Prison after nearly eight years.
🔸 The identities of 19 deceased Kurds have been confirmed following a boat disaster in Italy. This is the third such tragedy involving Iraqi Kurdish migrants fleeing economic hardship, political instability and corruption in their homeland.
🔸 New report from Turkey’s human rights organisation reveals that 67% of torture survivors in Turkey in 2023 spoke Kurdish. The rates in Kurdish-populated regions were 2.6 times higher than the national average.
